About the Club
Pine Ridge Archery Club is a field archery club, specialising in marked and unmarked field archery. We have two courses - one is a 14-target marked round, where the targets vary between field, hunter and animal faces and the distances are known, ranging from 7 - 80 yards. This course is fairly open with some gum trees and shots at every angle.
The second course is unmarked, and is set in stunning native bush. It enjoys a reputation as one of the most beautiful and challenging courses in the country. The target faces are of animals, sometimes commercially printed and sometimes painted by our skilled artists. The distances are unknown, so as well as requiring good archery skills, an ability to judge distances is essential, but can be easily developed with practice. There are 28 targets on this course, with distances ranging from 4 - 60 yards.
Michael and Alex shoot wellin a 3D competition
Both of these courses are shot every Sunday by our members. On the first Sunday of each month there is a competitive Card Shoot, with friendly rivalry between members for certificates and an annual ranking. Unfortunately it is not suitable for visitors to attend on these days.
Interclub competitions are held from time to time throughout the year and Pine Ridge is a well recognised host of top quality national events in various styles of archery.
The club also owns several 3D life-sized animals which are shot in some of these competitions. These provide a great sense of realism that improves both hunting skills and accuracy with the bow. Some of the photos on this website show these 3D animals in use.
Families form the backbone of this club, with members as young as five years old and as old as .... there is no age limit! All are welcome and the club is open all year round on Sunday mornings. A committee member is on duty each Sunday from 8.30am until 1pm, and are able to help you with the basics of archery. We have equipment available for use, and the first few visits are free. We also have gear available for hire. To come and have a go simply call our club contact, Reg Harris, on phone 534 1033, or email Marcos, our coach, on inquiries@pineridgearchers.co.nz.
Membership of the club is very reasonable, at an annual fee of $50 per adult, $35 per junior (under 18 years) and $100 per family. There is also an affiliation fee of $7.50 per person annually to the national governing body, the NZ Field Archery Association.
There is a weekly fee of $5 per adult and $2 per junior. Compare that to a round of golf!
It is recommended that you wear gumboots in winter and spring, and it is essential that juniors under 16 years are accompanied by an adult.

History of the Club
Pine Ridge Archery Club was founded in 1977 by a small but enthusiastic group of archers. It has steadily grown over the years to a current membership of about sixty, making it the second largest club in Auckland.
Originally catering mostly to bowhunters, the focus has more recently been on field archery - both marked and unmarked. We do still have several members who enjoy hunting however, from deer and goats to koi carp.
We are lucky enough to be situated on a fantastic piece of land, well suited to archery, thanks to the generous support from a local land owner. We have both open fields and beautiful native bush, with many uphill and downhill shots. Pine Ridge archers generally do well at other archery venues, due to the challenging nature of our courses - we breed 'em tough at Pine Ridge!
The Committee
Pine Ridge Archery Club is fortunate to have a very active, enthusiastic committee. It is made up of twelve members who hold responsibilities including President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Registrar, Newsletter Editor, Course Captains, Webmaster and a Fundraising team.
The committee meets on the third Tuesday of every month and is dedicated to the advancement of the club, upgrade of facilities and catering to the needs of the membership. They also host numerous competitions, both local and national, and through the hard work of the committee and members, have developed a reputation as an excellent host club for these events.
